I carried inside me a cut and bleeding soul, and how to get rid of it I just didn’t know. I sought every pleasure - the countryside, sports, fooling around, the peace of a garden, friends, and good company, sex, reading. My soul floundered in the void - and come back upon me. For where could my heart flee from my heart? Where could I escape from myself?
But for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short.

Lanhydrock Estate is a country estate and mansion in Cornwall; standing on extensive grounds(360 hectares or 890 acres) and open for your viewing pleasure. Much of the present house is Victorian; although a few sections date to the seventeenth century.
The National Trust issues the following enticements to lure you to Lanhydrock: 50 rooms to explore; a Steinway piano in the Long Gallery, a second-hand bookshop and “family museum” (what does that mean? Babies in nappies as exhibits?) a picnic area, an adventure playground, colourful gardens, and a network of woodland and riverside paths. (I highlighted the stuff I like. “Adventure playground” = hordes of wailing children. And I loathe a picnic.)
You only posted this because of those books in the picture, you say accusingly. And I know it.
WELL. That is quite true. LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THEY ARE!!! Rows and rows of leather-bound, ancient magical tomes!!! I regret nothing. (davetonkin flickr)

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones

sadness drips like water beads
in a half-poisoned well,
I know that my chances have narrowed down to
almost nothing—
I’m like a bug in the bathroom when you flick on the
lightswitch at 3 a.m.
